BALTIMORE, Md. – The Fairfield University women's basketball team fell to Loyola University Maryland, 56-48, this evening in the Stags final trip to Reitz Arena. With the loss, Fairfield falls to 17-11 overall and to 11-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while Loyola improves to 11-17 overall and 6-11 in the league.

Katie Cizynski had her second-straight double-double and ninth of the year with 14 points and 14 rebounds in 40 minutes. Senior
Laura Vetra had a season-high 10 points while
Katelyn Linney and freshman
Kristin Schatzlein added eight points apiece.
The Greyhounds used a 10-0 run over a 3:42 span in the first half to open up an 18-10 lead. Cizynski stopped the run with a lay-in at 8:40 while Linney cut it to four points at less than a minute later. Vetra extended Fairfield's run to 6-0 with a jumper in the paint at 6:22. After a bucket by Loyola, Linney nailed a three-pointer from the top of the arc to pull the Stags within 20-19 with just over five minutes to play in the half. Cizynski gave the 21-20 lead with a lay-up at 3:13 to cap off Fairfield's 11-2 run. Katie Sheahin, however, would send the Greyhounds into the break with a 23-21 advantage after hitting a three-pointer at 1:28.
Cizynski tied it up 1:24 into the second half with a lay-up but a steal by Sheahin turned into an Alyssa Sutherland lay-up and the lead for Loyola at 16:53. After Linney cut the gap to 28-26 with a three-pointer, Loyola scored six points in less than a minute to jump to a 34-26 lead. Vetra ended the Greyhounds' 12-0 run with a three-pointer at 11:16 to make the score 38-29. After Loyola returned its lead to double digits, Fairfield cut into the deficit once again, this time using a 6-0 run to move within 43-38 with just over seven minutes to play.
With 4:14 remaining, Vetra drained a three-pointer to pull the Stags within 48-44. After trading baskets, Kara Marshall stuck in a lay-up with just over a minute left. Sheahin then hit four free throws in the final 38 seconds to seal the victory.
Sheahin had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Sutherland finished with a game-high 18 points for the Greyhounds. Marshall finished with 11 points.
For the second time this season, Fairfield did not attempt a free throw during the entire contest. The last time this occurred was on December 6 in a loss at Lehigh University.
Fairfield closes out the regular season on Sunday, March 3 at Alumni Hall by hosting Marist College at 2pm. The Stags will honor their senior class in a ceremony beginning at 1:45pm.
