Baseball Starts Three Game Series at George Mason

Weekly Notes

Fairfield returns to Virginia for a three-game series at George Mason University, March 1-3, at Spuhler Field in Fairfax.

On the Web: George Mason will be providing Live Stats and Live Audio for the three games this weekend.

Fairfield vs. George Mason: The Stags and the Patriots last met in 2005 in Fairfax, Va. where George Mason swept a three-game series from the Stags. Fairfield is 3-10 all-time against George Mason with the last Stags victory coming in 1989.

Scouting George Mason (4-3): The Patriots downed Georgetown University, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Tucker Tobin continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Tobin, who was named the CAA Baseball Player of the Week on Monday, is hitting .500 (15-for-30) with 12 RBI and nine runs scored in seven games this season. Seven of his 15 hits have been for extra bases, including three homers. Lefty Jake Kalish (0-0) has made two starts this season with a 1.59 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 11.1 innings.

Still Going: Senior outfielder Jack Giannini is riding a 17-game on-base streak which dates back to last season.

Three in a Row: Junior Rob LoPinto and seniors Anthony Hajjar and Jack Giannini are the only three Stags to have recorded at least one hit in each game this season.

Moving On Up: Senior Anthony Hajjar cracked the top-10 on Fairfield's career hits chart last season and is poised to crack the top-10 in several other categories. The first baseman currently has 178 career hits which is good for seventh all-time. Just ahead of Hajjar on the list are former Stags Doug Anderson (181) and Jason Rago (188). He is approaching the career top-10 in RBI (97), runs scored (89), doubles (29), games played (147), and games started (146). Defensively, Hajjar is currently third all-time in fielding percentage (.988), and second all-time in chances (1274) and putouts (1161).

What a Way to Debut: In his first collegiate start which also started the Stags 2013 season, sophomore Tucker Panciera threw 6.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits and two walks while striking out two batters for his first collegiate victory. Panciera retired the first four batters he faced and did not allow a single Lancer beyond second base during his outing.

Whole Lotta Hitting: Fairfield pounded out 15 hits at Longwood University on February 23. Five Stags had multi-hit days including first baseman Anthony Hajjar who went 4-for-5. Right fielder Ryan Plourde and catcher Sebastian Salvo each went 3-for-5 with a RBI. Freshman Keith Skinner and senior Jack Giannini each went 2-for-4.

Looking Ahead: The Stags return to the Northeast for a game at Fordham University on March 6 before going to Florida for their Spring Break trip the following week.
