Liseth Homers Twice In Softball's 12-2 Win Over Li

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Lauren Liseth hit a pair of home runs and registered five RBI to lead the Fairfield University softball team to a 12-2 win over Liberty University at the Pirate Classic Tournament. Her three-run home run was a key hit in the team's five-run second inning that turned a 2-1 lead into a 7-1 advantage.

            The Stags jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, a rally started by a lead-off walk by Sammy Ruffolo. Mikayla Shumate followed with a bunt single to put runners on first and second. Kristen Filicia sent both runners ahead one base with a sacrifice. Lauren Liseth brought both runners with a double to right center that made it 2-0. Liberty posted a run in the bottom of the inning with a double and a single on successive at-bats.
 
            Fairfield bolstered its lead with five runs in the second inning as Kristen Filicia had an RBI single and Liseth added a three-run home run to make it a 7-1 Fairfield lead. Liseth would add another home run in her next at-bat, a solo shot that pushed the score to 8-2 in the fifth inning. The score would move to 9-2 after Shumate sent home a run with a ground out to third base in the sixth inning.
 
            The Stags added three more runs in the top of the seventh with Sam Frungillo providing the big hit – a two-run double to right center. Ruffolo followed with an RBI single that closed the game's scoring.
 
            Rae Ball pitched the first three innings and allowed three hits and one earned run before yielding to Rebecca Trott. The junior tossed the next two innings and allowed two hits and one unearned run. Lauren Falkanger finished the game by throwing the final two innings. Trott earned the win, her second of the season.

Fairfield takes on Notre Dame on Sunday morning to finish its play at the Pirate Classic, hosted by East Carolina University.
