BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Josip Mikulic tied his career-high with 16 points while Desmond Wade added 13 points to lead the Fairfield University men's basketball team to a 71-37 win over Marist College at Webster Bank Arena. The victory halted the Stags' five-game losing streak and pushed the team over the .500 mark at 11-10 overall.
 
Fairfield never trailed in the game although the Red Foxes kept the game close for the first 10 minutes of the game. The only tie of the game came at 2-2 in the opening 90 seconds before the Stags went on a 9-1 run that put the team in front at 11-3. Maurice Barrow scored four of those nine points to spark the run. Marist fought back to within a point at 11-10 with 13:19 remaining, but Fairfield would go on a 24-6 run over the next five minutes to take its biggest lead to that point at 35-16 with 4:54 remaining. Fairfield would make six three pointers during that stretch with Mikulic and Steve Johnston each making two shots from behind the arc.
 
The Stags grabbed a 41-21 lead at halftime, the team's biggest halftime lead of the season. The lead continued to grow throughout the second half with the largest margin reaching 36 points, nearly doubling up the Red Foxes at 71-35 with 1:51 remaining in the game.
 
Needham finished the game with four assists which gave him 500 career assists, becoming the fifth Stag to reach the mark in school history. He currently stands fifth all-time in career assists and needs just 31 more assists to move into the top three all-time.
 
Mikulic continued his torrid shooting from behind the three-point arc, making four of seven long-range jumpers. Over the last six games, the freshman has made 10 of his 18 three-point attempts.
 
Johnston also reached a career-high for the Stags with nine points, making three of his four three-point field goal attempts. He also played a career-best 23 minutes and dished off two assists and picked up a steal while on the hardwood.
 
Fairfield gets back on the bus for its next game, heading to Saint Peter's College for a Sunday afternoon contest. The Stags battled the Peacocks at 2 pm at the Yanitelli Center.
