FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Head Coach
Joe Frager announced that
Laura Scinto has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the women's basketball program.
“Laura is very deserving of this promotion as she's tirelessly dedicated herself to the Fairfield women's basketball program,” Frager said. “She's not only a fantastic coach, but she's been a trusted assistant and a friend for more than a decade. A big part of a coach's success is having great assistant coaches, and I have been blessed to have such a wonderful staff around me.”
Scinto begins her sixth season as a member of the women's basketball coaching staff and her 17th alongside Frager. She has helped the Stags to a 101-58 overall record during her time at Fairfield and to the MAAC Championship Final in two of the last three seasons.
Prior to Fairfield, she spent nine years as an assistant at Southern Connecticut State University where she was an integral part of the 2007 National Title, as well as the team's four NCAA Tournament appearances. For the two years prior to making the move with Frager to SCSU, Scinto was his assistant at Seymour High School. In that capacity she helped lead the Wildcat's to back-to-back state titles and played a role in the 52-game winning streak. She also spent time coaching at Shelton High School along with other local AAU programs.
A native of Shelton, Conn., Scinto was inducted into the New Haven Tap-Off Club Hall of Fame in 2009. She scored 1,338 points, second at Shelton High School, in leading the squad to the 1985 State Class LL and Housatonic League Championships. She was the first Shelton player to graduate with 12 varsity letters, lettering in basketball, softball and soccer. Scinto played collegiate women's basketball at Bryant College. She led the squad to three NCAA Tournament appearances, while scoring over 1,000 points, and earning academic all-conference honors.
Fairfield went 24-9 overall and 17-3 in the MAAC during the 2011-12 campaign, earning an automatic berth in the WNIT. The Stags hosted their first-ever WNIT game, falling to Drexel University in the first round to conclude their historic season.
Fairfield will open the 2012-13 season at the University of Florida on November 9. For 2012-13 season ticket information, please contact the Fairfield University ticket office at (203) 254-4103 or email Ticket Manager
