TROY, N.Y. –
Fairfield University senior Brett Shulick four-hit the defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Champion Manhattan College in a complete game effort but the Stags offense couldn't master the Jaspers' Taylor Sewitt this afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium. The third-seeded Stags were edged, 1-0, by the top-seeded Jaspers and eliminated from the 2012 MAAC Championship.

It was a successful season for Fairfield which finishes the year at 27-28 overall and setting the program record for wins in a season. In addition, the Stags clinched their first berth in the MAAC Championship in more than a decade.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning as Shulick issued a bases loaded walk to Joe McClennan which scored leadoff man Anthony Vega from third. Shulick settled down after the third inning, facing the minimum between the fourth and seventh innings.

Fairfield, however, had their chances off Sewitt early, putting two on in the top of the first. In the top of the fourth, Jack Giannini led off with a double and moved over to third on a fly by but the Stags left him stranded.

The Stags threatened again in the top of the eighth inning as Larry Cornelia reached on an error to start the frame. Cornelia advanced to second base on a sac bunt by rookie Dean Sadik but Fairfield could not capitalize. Sewitt retired the Stags in order in the top of the ninth.

Sadik went 2-for-2 with a double, sacrifice, and was hit by a pitch. Senior Tyler Wosleger had the Stags other hit on the day.
