FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University baseball team downed Canisius College, 7-3, to capture the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series from the Griffs this afternoon at Alumni Diamond.

Anthony Hajjarwent 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored for the Stags while rookie
Sebastian Salvo hit his first collegiate home run, a three-run shot in the sixth inning. Senior
Larry Cornelia went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
On the hill,
Brett Shulick picked up his third-straight victory and improved to 5-3 on the season, going 7.0 innings and scattering two runs, one earned, on seven hits while fanning four batters.
Fairfield (20-22; 8-7 MAAC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by senior
Tyler Wosleger. Canisius (23-23; 9-6 MAAC) tied it up in the top of the second after a Fairfield error led to a run. The Griffs took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Connor Panas.
In the bottom of the sixth, Cornelia led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice by Wosleger. With a runner on and two outs, Hajjar blasted a double to right center which scored rookie
Alex Witkus and gave Fairfield a 3-2 lead. After
Jack Giannini drew a walk, Salvo homered to right field push the Stags' lead to 6-2.
Fairfield added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI single by Hajjar. Canisius got the run back in the back in the top of the ninth and threatened but junior
Mark Bordonaro was able to close the door on the Griffs. Bordonaro threw 2.0 innings of relief, scattering four hits.
Billy Martin (4-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.
The Stags return to action on May 1 when they host Central Connecticut State University on Alumni Diamond. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
