WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University baseball team dropped a 9-1 decision at the University of Hartford this afternoon in non-league action.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Hartford (5-17) struck for two runs. The Hawks broke it open in the fifth with a four run inning.
The Hawks' Brian Hunter, meanwhile, took a no-hitter into the fifth inning when
Jack Giannini broke it up with a single through the left side to lead off the stanza.
The Stags would not get on the board until the top of the sixth when
Anthony Hajjar scored on a single by
Sebastian Salvo. Hartford answered with a three-run seventh inning to open up a 9-1 advantage.
Hunter (1-1) went 5.1 innings allowing just one run on three hits while striking out eight batters. Freddy Andujar and Charlie Moran combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief with Andjuar fanning four in 2.2 innings of work.
Jeremy Soule took the loss, going 4.1 innings and allowing five runs on six hits.
Fairfield (9-15) resumes MAAC play this weekend when it travels to Saint Peter's College.
