WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Rookie pitcher
Jeremy Soule fanned nine batters in 6.0 innings to lift the Fairfield University baseball team to a 7-4 win over Chicago State on Tuesday.
Soule (1-1) picked up his first collegiate win, scattering two runs on five hits with 9 K's.
Offensively, sophomore
Ryan Plourde went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Freshman
Billy Zolga went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored.
Fairfield (6-8) scored four runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead.
Tyler Wosleger made it 5-0 in the bottom of the second with an RBI single which scored
Sal Ciccone.
Chicago State got on the board in the top of the fourth with on a two-run double by Shane McGaharan. Plourde hit solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-2 and drove in another run two innings later to push the lead to 7-2. Chicago State added two runs in the eighth but that's as close as they would get.
Fairfield returns to action on March 15 against Akron at 6:30pm at Jacksonville University's John Sessions Stadium. The Stags continue their stay at Jacksonville for the Wingate Invitational, March 17-18. Fairfield faces the host Dolphins on Saturday and will face Western Carolina and Jacksonville on Sunday.
