KANNAPOLIS, N.C – The Fairfield University baseball team opened the 2012 campaign with a 10-4 come-from-behind victory over Youngstown State University this afternoon.
Fairfield (1-0) was trailing 4-0 midway through the third inning when rain forced a stoppage in play. After an hour delay, the Stags came out swinging, scoring 10 unanswered runs to give Head Coach
Bill Currier his first victory at the helm of the Stags.

Kyle Capaldo threw four stellar innings for the win while rookie
EJ Ashworth threw the last two innings in relief, holding Youngstown State (0-4) scoreless.
Offensively, rookie
Alex Witkus had a pair of doubles in his collegiate debut. Sophomore
Mike Maschi had a two-run double while seniors
Larry Cornelia and
Mark Skrapits each had two-run singles.
Fairfield returns to action tomorrow, February 25, when it faces Long Island University in a doubleheader in Kannapolis.
