FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- With the Sears Bracketbuster behind them, the Fairfield University men's basketball team will open the final week of the regular season with a Monday night match up with Marist College. The game takes place at McCann Arena at 7 pm. It will be the first of three straight road games for the Stags, heading to Iona on Friday night and Rider on Sunday afternoon.
The Stags come off a 67-63 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon, despite receiving a fine effort from
Rakim Sanders. The forward tallied a game-high 21 points for Fairfield, his ninth 20-point game this season. Fairfield erased an 18-point deficit in the second half and rallied to take the lead at 61-60 and 63-62. But the Panthers finished the game with a 5-0 run over the final two minutes to hold on for the win.
Marist picked up a win in its game of the Sears Bracketbuster pool, defeating the University of Maine by a 77-71 count on the road. Chavaughn Lewis established career highs for points, rebounds, and assists with 24 points, nine rebounds,and five assists. The victory improved the Red Foxes overall record to 11-16. Marist is 5-10 in MAAC play as well.
There are three Marist student-athletes are scoring in double figures, led by Devin Price's 13.7 scoring average. Lewis in next in line with 13.6 points per game, followed by Dorvell Carter's 11.7 points every forty minutes. Adam Kemp averages 7.3 rebounds every forty minutes which leads the program.
