GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Fairfield women's basketball team opened their 2012-13 season with a 49-71 loss to the University of Florida. 
On her second three-pointer of the game and 210th of her career, senior guard 
Katelyn Linney broke Fairfield alum Holli Tapley's (1997-2001) program record for three-pointers made.  Linney tallied 13 points in today's season opener and has now made 211 three-pointers over her four years. 
Fairfield was led by junior 
Brittany Obi-Tabot who scored a career-high 14 points on 5-12 shooting and 4-6 from the free throw line.  
Katie Cizynski posted five rebounds and eight total points, six of which came in the second half.  Junior 
Alexys Vazquez had eight rebounds while sophomore guard Felicia DaCruz posted a career-high four assists.  Newcomers 
Christa Scognamiglio and 
Kristin Schatzlein each made their collegiate debut with the Stags, as did junior college transfer 
Casey Grace. 
Vicky McIntyre and Kayla Lewis led the way for the Gators with 12 points apiece while teammate Jaterra Bonds went a perfect four-for-four from the line. 
Obi-Tabot was the first to put points on the board and scored four of the first five Fairfield baskets.  At the 13:25 mark, Fairfield held a six-point lead but the Gators scored back-to-back three-pointers to tie it up at 15 apiece.  Florida took the lead on a layup by McIntyre and continued with a 19-9 run in the remainder of the first half. 
The Stags narrowed the Gators' lead to five points in the second half with 15 minutes on the clock but were unable to keep the momentum on their side. 
Prior to facing the Gators, Fairfield has won the last five season openers under Head Coach 
Joe Frager.  The Stags now hold a 17-16 all-time record in season openers, 5-1 under Coach Frager. 
Fairfield (0-1, 0-0 MAAC) opens action in Alumni Hall on November 13 when Brown University visits at 7pm.  The Stags travel to Butler University on November 17 before returning home to host St. Bonaventure on November 20 at Alumni Hall.
