Swimming & Diving Squads Fall At MAAC Foe Marist

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped dual meets to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) host Marist College on Saturday.  The men fell 163.5-123.5 and dropped to 2-3 on the year, while the women were defeated 172-126 and also dropped to 2-3 on the season.

Paul Bimmler (Reading, Mass.), Rich Straub (Pelham, N.Y.), Connor Daly (Reading, Mass.) and Tyler Conley (Shrewsbury, N.J.) teamed up to win a closely contested 200-yard medley relay, touching in a time of 1:40.44.  The Stags also won the meets final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Bimmler, Conley, Jay Cook (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Cody Parker (Ocean Twp., N.J.).

Daly would go on to win three individual events as well on the afternoon.  HE touched first in both butterfly events, winning the 200 (1:57.82) by more than six seconds and the 100 (55.14).  He also touched first in the 400 individual medley, finishing in a time of 4:15.96.

Parker also captured two individual events, winning the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 10:08.56 and the 500 freestyle in 4:57.19. Conley also garnered an individual win, finishing first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.97.

Junior Suzy Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) was a double-winner for the women's team, touching first in both the 100 (1:09.93) and 200 (2:31.82) breaststroke events.  Freshman Liz Avery (Hampden, Mass.) won the 50 free in a time of 26.38, out touching teammate freshman Michelle Pleban (Seymour, Conn.). 

Senior Cacky Keating (Chatham, N.J.) also earned an individual win for the Stags, capturing the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.47. Keating anchored the Stags 200-yard freestyle relay winning team, partnering with Avery, Pleban and sophomore Ariel Bond (Oxford, Conn.).

The Stags return to action December 1-2 at the 2012 ECAC Warm-Up Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
