FAIRFIELD, Conn. –
The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2012-13 campaign with a tough loss to visiting Boston College this evening at the RecPlex. The men's team was topped 153-129 while the women's team was clipped by the Eagles, 152-137.
 
Freshman Kelly Mulligan had a solid debut for the Stags winning three individual events while picking up second place in the 200m medley relay. Senior Cacky Keating began her final season as a Stag with a pair of individual victories. On the men's side, sophomore Tyler Conley won three individual events for the Stags.
 
Mulligan made her collegiate debut as the lead leg of the 200m medley relay, posting a split of 31.50 seconds. The Stags relay, which also featured Suzy Lawlor, Keating, and Emily Pedrick finished with a time of 2:06.53 just off Boston College which notched a time of 2:06.38. Mulligan then captured the 100m back with a time of 1:08.19, the 200m back with a time of 2:27.63, and the 200m IM with a time of 2:29.88.
 
Conley won the 50m freestyle with a time of 23.98 seconds, just .32 seconds off of his own program record. Conley then won the 100m freestyle with a time 54.48 seconds. He finished out the night by picking up first-place points in the 100m fly, finishing with a time of 1:02.40.
 
Keating won the 200m fly with a time of 2:29.89 and the 100m fly with a time of 1:07.28. Lawlor captured the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:17.28. She finished fourth in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:50.16. Lawlor also picked up second-place points in the 200m IM with a time of 2:39.59.
 
Sophomore transfer Ariel Bond won the 400m freestyle in her Fairfield debut with a time of 4:42.76 Bond also was the runner-up in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:13.36. Sophomore Meredith LaBerge was the runner-up in the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:44.47 took third in the 800m freestyle with a time of 9:39.61. Junior Margaret Osmulski finished third in the 100m free with a time of 1:03.97
 
On the boards, sophomore Ashlee Steinberger was the runner-up on the 1-meter with a score of 220.35 and third on the 3-meter with a score of 207.45. Sophomore Lauren Kemple placed fifth on the 1-meter with a score of 190.27 and sixth on the 3-meter with a score of 151.72. Freshman Demi Marathas posted a score of 141.90 on the 3-meter and a mark of 166.05 on the 1-meter.
 
For the men, junior Cody Parker captured the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:20.77. He also was third in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:01.15 and posted a time of 2:22.72 in the 200m fly.  Senior Paul Bimmler had a pair of second-place finishes. Bimmler was the runner-up in the 100m back with a time of 1:04.16 and in the 200m back with a time of 2:20.12.
 
Junior Kevin Greener was the runner-up in the 800m freestyle with a time of 8:59.50 and in the 400m with a time of 4:21.24. Sophomore Chris Weaver was third in the 100m back with a personal best of 1:05.42 and notched third-place points in the 200m IM with a time of 2:34.51. Sophomore Brett Borgognone was third in the 200m fly with a personal best of 2:20.33 and had a time of 1:04.87 in the 100m fly to earn second-place points.
 
Sophomore Evan Barr turned in a pair of second-place finishes for the Stags on the boards. He was the runner-up on 3-meter with a score of 228.02 and on the 1-meter with a score of 221.85.  Sophomore Joe Dowling placed third on the 3-meter with a personal best of 213.45. Junior Brien Bates placed fifth on the 1-meter with a personal best of 211.88. Senior Ryan Krebs finished fourth on the 3-meter with a score of 191.70 and fourth on the 1-meter 215.10. Sophomore Will Sullivan posted a score of 183.72 on the 3-meter and a mark of 199.90.
 
Fairfield returns to action next weekend when the Stags travel to Holy Cross.
