Swimming & Diving Hosts Manhattan On Saturday

Fairfield faces Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for Manhattan College on Saturday, October 20 at 12pm in the RecPlex.

Fairfield (1-1) vs. Manhattan (0-0): The women's team has taken nine consecutive meets from the Jaspers, including a 134-69 victory last season. The men's team has won three out of four meetings with Manhattan. Last season, the Jaspers edged the Stags, 106-98.

Last Time Out: Fairfield notched their first victories of the season on October 13 by sweeping the College of the Holy Cross. The women's team posted a 217-83 win while the men's team picked up a 165-132 win. Freshman Kelly Mulligan recorded four victories on the day in three individual events and one relay event. For the second meet in a row, Mulligan captured the 100y back (1:01.69), the 200y back (2:13.05), and the 200y IM (2:16.29). She was also the lead leg of the 400y medley relay which posted a time of 4:11.31. Freshman Connor Daly made a splash in his collegiate debut recording three individual events. Daly captured the 200y fly (1:57.67), the 100y fly (53.58), and the 200y IM (2:01.82). Daly's times in the butterfly events were just over a second off the program record.

MAAC Diver of the Week: Sophomore Ashlee Steinberger was received the league's first MAAC Diver of the Week honor on Monday. She began the season on October 6 against Boston College, finishing as the runner-up on the 1-meter with a score of 220.35 and third on the 3-meter with a score of 207.45. In the Stags' victory against Holy Cross one week later, Steinberger swept both boards. She recorded a mark of 223.12 on the 1-meter board and a score of 221.10 on the 3-meter board. Steinberger is the defending MAAC Champion on the 3-meter and was named the 2012 MAAC Championship's Most Outstanding Diver.

MAAC Preseason Poll: The MAAC released the 2012-13 Preseason Coaches Poll. The Stags men's team was picked eighth while the women's team was picked seventh. On the men's side, Rider was selected to repeat as champions. Marist was picked to finish second in the poll. On the women's side, Marist was picked to defend its conference title. Rider was picked by the coaches to finish second.
