Game Notes
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team resumes play on Friday night when it heads to the Capital District for a 7 pm game against Siena College at the Times Union Center. The game will be televised on SNY in the Connecticut, New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey markets. A replay will be available system-wide on Saturday, January 7 at 6 am.
The Stags are one of two unbeaten teams remaining in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), sharing the distinction with Iona College. Both teams are 3-0 and hold a one-game lead over Loyola, Manhattan, and Marist as of today. Fairfield will take on those three teams over the next three dates on its schedule, including Sunday's match up with Manhattan College.
The team continues to receive great efforts from
Rakim Sanders and
Derek Needham, who check into this contest as the team's top two scorers. Sanders leads the team in scoring with 16.9 points per game, followed by Needham's 12.1 points every forty minutes. Needham remains the team's hottest long-range shooter, hitting 50 percent from behind the arc over the last eight games (29 of 58). He also looks to move into the top ten for career assists at Fairfield, needing just four more assists to move past Kyle Commodore's 340 assists.
Siena comes off a loss to Iona College earlier in the week, which dropped the Saints to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in MAAC play. Evan Hymes is the team's top scorer with a 15.5 scoring average. He is also the team leader in several other offensive categories, including Three pointers made (22) and assists (44). OD Anosike is the Saints' top rebounder, collecting 12.1 caroms per contest. He also leads the team with a .461 field goal percentage, making 70 of 152 attempts.
Following this game, the Stags will head to Draddy Gymnasium for a Sunday afternoon match up with the Jaspers. The game time is slated for 2 pm.
