FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University and Marist College women's basketball teams entered tonight's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest at Webster Bank Arena with unblemished league records. It would be the Red Foxes who remained undefeated in conference action as they topped the host Stags, 59-47.
Fairfield (11-5; 4-1 MAAC) was led by senior
Taryn Johnson who recorded her fifth double-double of the year finishing with 19 points and a season-best 13 rebounds. Marist (10-6; 5-0 MAAC) was led by senior Corielle Yarde who posted 24 points. Senior
Desiree Pina also scored in double figures for the Stags, finishing with 11 points while corralling six rebounds.
After Marist scored the first basket of the game,
Alexys Vazquez nailed a three-pointer to spark a 10-0 run for Fairfield over the first five minutes of play. The Red Foxes came back, tying the score 12-12 at 13:29 on a three-pointer by Yarde. The two teams traded baskets until the score came to rest at 19-19 at 7:53. Marist would go on a 10-2 run over the final 6:19 of the half to take a 29-21 advantage into the break.
Fairfield scored the first four points of the second half, but Yarde hit a three-pointer as the shot clock expired at 18:09 for her 19th point of the night while extending the Marist lead to 32-25. The Red Foxes pushed out to a 44-34 advantage on a lay-up by Leanne Ockenden, but Johnson answered with a successful three-point play at 7:54.
The Stags pulled within six points, 46-40, on a three-pointer by Vazquez at 6:57 but the Red Foxes returned their lead to 10 points just two minutes later. Marist took its largest lead of the night, 53-40, on a three-pointer by Ockenden at 4:11. The Red Foxes controlled the rest of the way.

Brittany MacFarlane and
Katelyn Linney chipped in with five points apiece. MacFarlane also had six rebounds. For the Red Foxes, Ockenden finished with 13 points while Casey Dulin had 10 points.
Fairfield returns to action on Sunday, January 15 when Canisius College visits Alumni Hall at 1pm.
