BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Stags had an outstanding showing at the 24th Annual SWIM Across the Sound Marathon on August 6 with three teams sweeping the University Challenge portion of the event. Competition aside, five teams comprised of 30 Stags, past and present, raised more than $31,000 for the St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation and its cancer prevention, support, and education programs.
Fairfield University Team 5, which consisted of Paul Bimmler, Cacky Keating, Margaret Osmulski, Anthony Caserta, Emily Kelly, and Tyler Konley, was the first Stags team across the line in a time of 6:29:53.
“In one word: amazing,” Keating said of her first time swimming 15 miles across Long Island Sound. “This is one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life, but it's such an experience. And just having teammates out there with you, we kept pushing each other and helped each other get through it.”
Fairfield University Team 4, comprised of sophomores Suzy Lawlor, Brianna Riley, Cody Parker, Rich Straub, Kevin Greener, and Kyle Rozanitis, was the runner-up in the University Challenge clocking a time of 6:36:05.
Fairfield University Team 3 was a mix of alumni and current swimmers. Seniors Andrew Robinson, Tommy Peters, and Brendan Sarpu were joined by alumni Boris Romanovsky '10, Taylor Stecko '10, and Charlie Helm '11 to finish third in the University Challenge posting a time of 6:52:30.
Also swimming for the Stags were: Lizzie Lawlor '08, Jay Power '84, Rob Devine '08, Rachel Waldstein '08, and Aly Criscuolo who made up Fairfield University Team 2 which finished in 7:04:47.
