Summer Of The Stags: Baseball Players Keep Rolling

Traditionally, the baseball team is the last team to finish their season at Fairfield sewing up the year at the end of May. The dust from the Stags sweep of Saint Peter's in the 2011 season finale was barely settled before six Stags headed off to their summer league destinations.

Tyler Wosleger, fresh off his junior season, headed to Canada where is spending his second summer with the Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods League, a highly competitive wood bat league. Wosleger, who won a Rawlings Finest In the Field Award for his play at first base last summer, is blogging about his time in Thunder Bay with new entries appearing on FairfieldStags.com each Monday.

The rest of the Stags playing summer leagues chose to stay local to take advantage of the competitive leagues in the region.

In the New England Collegiate Baseball League, Anthony Hajjar is suiting up for the Danbury Westerners while Mark Bordonaro is playing for the Mystic Schooners. Hajjar and Bordonaro, both entering their junior years at Fairfield, are in the second summers playing for their respective teams in the NECBL.

Three Stags – Kyle Capaldo, Gavin McCullough, Ryan Plourde – are enjoying their first summer league ventures, playing for the Torrington Titans in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

Be sure to check back to FairfieldStags.com throughout the summer for periodic updates on how the Stags are performing in their respective leagues.
