Softballl Win Streak Comes To An End With 3-0 Deci

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team could muster only one hit while the defense allowed two unearned runs against Sacred Heart University, leading to a 3-0 setback against the Pioneers. The decision ended the Stags seven-game winning streak and dropped them to 18-14 overall.

Pitcher Sarah Minice started the first inning by striking out the first two Sacred Heart hitters. She followed with a pair of walks to put runners at first and second. The two runners moved up a base following an infield error. The lead runner came home when the runner at second was caught in a run down, allowing the first run to come home.

Fairfield started the third inning with a base hit by Tiffany Lawson, which would be the only hit for the Stags on the afternoon. She took second following a sacrifice fly and went to third base when Kristina Lingo's grounder was mishandled. Emily Orr entered the game as a pinch runner for Lingo, but was thrown out trying to steal second. The next batter grounded out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Courtney Lee slapped a two-run double to push the lead to 3-0. Pioneer pitcher Jen Russell retired the last eight batters she faced to register her 11th win of the season.

Fairfield takes Friday off before taking on Canisius College in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader begins at 1 pm.
