SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --
Kristen Filicia hit a solo home run but it was not enough for the softball team to overcome nationally-ranked University of Oregon as the Stags dropped a 3-1 decision at the Mustang Classic.
Oregon jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a base hit, a stolen base, and another single pushed the Ducks in front. The team posted another two runs in the third inning, scoirng off a run-scoring single and an error for a 3-0 advantage.
Fairfield broke the shutout when Filicia launched a long home run over the left field fence that cut the lead to 3-1. The Stags could not come any closer, managing just one hit which was a double by freshman
Rae Ball.
Pitcher
Sarah Minice took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs on nine hits and four strikeouts.
The second game of the day was rained out with the Stags scheduled to play host Cal Poly. Fairfield will finish up its three-day run in the Mustang Classic with a game against UNLV on Sunday morning.
