RALEIGH, N.C. –

Tiffany Lawson, and
Lauren Liseth each had a hit in both games today as the Stags softball team picked up a pair of wins at the Wolfpack Classic. Fairfield defeated Charleston Southern by a 4-2 score and followed up with a 2-1 victory against James Madison.
The Stags struggled in their opener against Charleston Southern, failing to get a hit through the first five innings. But Fairfield finally broke through in the sixth inning when it posted a pair of runs that tied the game at 2-2.
Lauren Liseth played a major role in the rally, sending home the Stags' first run with an RBI double, and then scored on a Charleston Southern error.
Fairfield won the game in the next inning when
Kimi Kurata hit her third home run of the tournament, a two-run shot that made the score 4-2. Freshman
Rebecca Trott earned the victory by allowing two runs on just four hits. Fairfield finished the game with six hits, including a game-high two base hits by
Tiffany Lawson.
In the second game, the Stags fell behind after Ashley Burnham singled, stole second, and came home following Caitlen Manning's RBI base hit. Liseth started a fourth-inning rally with a single to lead off the inning. She took second base after a ground out to first base, and came home after
Alli Wigand sent a double into left field to tie the score at 1-1.
Fairfield scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kristin Filcia was placed on second as part of the tie-breaker rule to start the inning. She went to third base courtesy of Liseth's sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate with the winning run after
Kristina Lingo collected a double to left-center field.
The Stags improved their overall record to 5-4 and won three of four games in the Wolfpack Classic. Fairfield plays its final game in the tournament when it takes on Maine on Sunday morning.
