Softball Falls To North Carolina State In Second G

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Fairfield University softball team dropped its second game in the Wolfpack Classic as North Carolina State handed the Stags a 7-2 defeat. The loss came a few hours after the team posted a 4-1 win over the University at Stony Brook in the tournament opener.

The Wolfpack opened the scoring with a run in the third inning when Bridget Desbois lined an RBI double that sent Toni Ann Williford for a 1-0 lead. The Stags countered with a run in their next at-bat as Kristina Lingo chased home Lauren Liseth with a run-scoring double that knotted the score at 1-1.

Fairfield put together a pair of walks and two base hits in the fifth inning that pushed home the team's second run and gave it a 2-1 advantage. North Carolina broke open the game in the bottom of the inning by taking advantage of two errors that aided a six-run rally with two outs.

The Stags fell to 3-4 overall with the loss, while North Carolina State improved its mark to 8-10. Fairfield continues play in the Classic by taking on Charleston Southern at noon followed by James Madison at 6:30 pm.
