Softball Drops A Pair Of Games At Pirate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Lauren Liseth went three for three with a home run in the first game, while Alli Wigand reached base twice in the second game but the softball team was not able to overcome early deficits at the East Carolina Pirate Classic. Towson won the opener with a 2-1 decision in extra innings, while the host school registered a 9-0 win the nightcap.

Liseth provided all the offense in the opener with a pair of singles and a solo home run which accounted for the team's only run. Towson jumped out to a 1-0 lead against starter Sarah Minice, before Liseth knotted the score with a solo shot in the top of the fourth inning. The Tigers broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth with an unearned run. Minice allowed six hits and fanned three hitters in seven-plus innings.

In the second game, three Fairfield hitters reached base against East Carolina pitcher Faith Sutton. Wigand was responsible for two of those passes to the base paths, stroking the team's only hit and working out a walk. Kristen Filicia had the other base on balls for the Stags. The Pirates scored three runs in the second inning, added a run in the third frame, and closed out the scoring with five runs in the fifth inning.

Fairfield finishes up its three-day run in the Pirate Classic with a Sunday morning game at 9 am.
