PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Fairfield University women's basketball team fell to Big East foe Providence College 75-43 this afternoon at the Brown Bear Classic.
Senior
Taryn Johnson finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Stags, who move to 3-3 on the season. Providence's Teya Wright led all players with 25 points and 12 rebounds, including 16 points and eight rebounds in the first half, to help the Friars improve to 4-3.
The two teams were knotted at 12-12 when the Stags scored five unanswered points to pull ahead 17-12 midway through the first half. A successful three-point play by Johnson put Fairfield up by six points, 20-14, at the 6:45 mark. Providence turned up the defensive pressure and capitalized on forced Fairfield turnovers to overtake the Stags, 21-20, with 5:34 remaining. The Friars closed out the half on a 16-6 run to take a 37-26 lead into the break.
Providence picked up where they left off in the second half, opening the frame on a 12-4 run to extend its lead to 49-30. The Friars controlled the rest of the way was they went on to their fourth straight victory.

Alexys Vazquez finished with five points.
Fairfield closes out play at the Brown Bear Classic tomorrow, December 4, with a 2pm contest against the University of Rhode Island at the Pizzitola Center. The Stags return home on December 8 to host Columbia University at 7pm in Alumni Hall.
