FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team hosts the University of New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at the Webster Bank Arena. The game is slated for a 1 pm tip. The game promotions include Teddy Bears with Love, an event sponsored by the Student Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations. All fans who donate a new, unwrapped teddy bear will receive free admission to the January 1, 2012 men's home game. Also, all youth (12 and under) basketball players who wear their team jersey will get a $5 ticket.
The Stags are coming off a 59-51 win over Old Dominion University, the team's third straight victory. Fairfield trailed only once in the game - a 2-0 deficit after the Monarchs scored on their opening possession. The Stags scored the next six points and never looked back en route to the win.
Derek Needham scored a game-high 19 points, his fourth straight double-digit performance.
Rakim Sanders just missed out on a double-double with nine points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
The Wildcats enter this game with a 3-3 record after defeating Brown University last Wednesday. The win over Brown was the team's first road victory after knocking off Suffolk University in the season opener and Dartmouth at home. Head Coach Bill Herrion has two players who are scoring in double figures, namely Albin Abreu and Chandler Rhoads. Abreu is the team's top scorer with a 15.0 scoring average, while Rhoads is a close second with 14.4 points every forty minutes. Patrick Konan is one the cusp of double digits with 8.8 points per contest.
