FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team continues its seven-game home stand when it hosts Yale University on September 7 at Lessing Field. The game time is slated for 7 pm.
The Stags look to improve on their 0-1-1 start, which includes a 2-2 tie with Bradley University on Friday night. Fairfield led twice in the game, beginning with a 1-0 lead after
Adam Cowen scored the team's first goal of the new season. Cowen jumped on a deflection from the goalkeeper and one-time a shot into the open goal.
David Piedrahita gave the Stags their second lead when he converted a penalty kick midway through the second half. Fairfield was awarded the opportunity when
Erik Ilisije was pushed inside the box.
Yale lost it's opener to nationally-ranked University of Connecticut on the road. The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half before the Bulldogs scored their only goal of the game. Tucker Kocher started the play with a cross to the middle of the box, which Andy Shorten redirected with a header to make the score 2-1. UConn added a goal later in the half to close out the scoring.
Fairfield will have four more home games during this seven-game stand, which includes a Satuirday afternoon game against the University of Massachusetts.
