Biography

2010: After missing most of his freshman season with injury, Cowen returned for a full run in the back during 2010. The defender played all 18 games and started 17 of those outings, missing only the season finale against Rider. Cowen picked up All-MAAC second team accolades as a sophomore, one of three Fairfield backs to collect honors from the conference. He was part of a defense that allowed just 19 goals in 18 games and one goal or less 13 times (6-3-4 record). Cowen scored his only points of the season in the second game of the year, pushing the ball past the Bradley goalkeeper in the 38th minute to give the team a 1-0 lead. The game eventually ended in a 2-2 draw. The sophomore posted six shots during the year, including a season-high two in the Siena game.

2009: Cowen suffered a stress fracture during pre-season camp which kept him off the field until mid-October. The defender made his collegiate debut on October 11 against Siena. During his time on the field, the Stags allowed seven goals in eight game. All eight of his appearances came against MAAC opponents, which allowed him to earn conference All-Rookie honors. After coming off the bench against Siena, he started the next seven MAAC outings. Cowen spent most of his time in the back, but did make a move forward in certain offensive situations. He managed one shot which came in his first game as a Stag.
