Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 setback to Northeastern University at Lessing Field. The Stags posted a 1-0-2 record in the three-game run.
The Huskies scored the game's only goal in the 12th minute when Don Anding took control of the ball at the top of the box. He carried the ball a couple yards and sent a pass to the right side of the box, which landed at the feet Michael Kennedy. The junior sent a shot to the far corner that beat goalkeeper Michael O'Keefe for a 1-0 lead.
The goal ended Fairfield's scoreless streak which stood at 321 minutes entering the game and improved to 333 minutes before the Huskies found the back of the goal. It was the first goal scored against the Stags since Yale tallied a first half goal on September 7.
The Stags had a couple chances to equal the game, the last of which came in the closing minutes. A cross from the far box went to the center where
Erik Ilisije was able to put a head on the ball. The shot sailed just over the cross bar with about a minute remaining in the game.
Michael O'Keefe made three saves in the Fairfield goal, while Northeastern goalkeeper Oliver Blum posted his second straight shutout by making one save.
Fairfield will take the pitch again on September 22 when it hosts St. Francis College at Lessing Field. Game time is slated for 7 pm. The game will mark the end of the Stags seven-game home stand.
