Men's Soccer Opens 2010 Season By Hosting Albany

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team will host the University at Albany on September 1, the first of seven straight home games to begin the 2010 season. The home stand will continue with a game on Friday night against Bradley University before intra-state foe Yale University comes to campus on September 7. All three games are at Lessing Field and begin at 7 pm.

The Stags are coming off a 9-7-2 season which saw them advance to the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament. The team reached the tournament semi-finals before the season came to an end. Fairfield enjoyed another successful season in MAAC play with a 5-2-2 mark, and was unbeaten on the road in conference play at 2-0-2.

Jack Burridge returns to the team in 2009 after leading the team in scoring with 20 points, registering eight goals and four assists in 17 contests. Burridge was responsible for four game-winning goals which was twice as many as any other Stags. Erik Ilisije was second on the team with 12 points, a result of his six goals. 

Michael O'Keeffe returns in the Fairfield goal after turning in one of the best freshman seasons in school history. He posted a 1.29 goals against average wtih 79 saves and a .775 save percentage in 18 starts. He posted four shutouts and combined with Matt Cleveland for two more shutouts.

Albany enters the 2010 season after posting a 0-13-3 mark in 2009, with all three ties coming on the road. The Great Danes were led by Bo Jelovac who tallied a team-high five points with two goals and an assist.
