Geehan Tabbed First Team All-Met

Stephanie Geehan has earned another accolade recognizing her senior campaign. The Fairfield University women's basketball player has been named First Team All-Met by Met Basketball Writers Association. She will receive the award at the 77th annual NIT/MBWA Awards Dinner Wednesday evening in Tarrytown, N.Y.
Geehan, a native of Braintree, Mass., averaged a team-best 14.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, the only player in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) to average a double-double for the season. A First-Team All-MAAC selection, Geehan was named the MAAC Player of the Week three times this season. The senior recorded 21 double-doubles, good for second in the NCAA. She also finished the year with 88 assists, second on the squad.
The 2010 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Geehan set the MAAC, and Fairfield, single-season block record in each of her final two seasons. As a senior she became the first player in history to swat over 100 shots in a single-season, blocking 118 shots, which ranked fourth in the NCAA. Geehan graduates as the league and school's career shot blocked leader, with 287. She also led the team in steals this season, with 61.
Geehan also graduates as only the fourth player in program history to record over 1,000 career points and rebounds. She finished her career fourth on the Stags career rebounding list with 1,050 and 20th on the all-time scoring list with 1,112 points.
Geehan helped lead the Stags to the 2010 MAAC Championship Game, as Fairfield posted a 20-14 record. It marked the second time in the last three years that Geehan and the Stags have posted over 20 wins in a year. Fairfield also earned a berth in the Women's Basketball Invitational, and defeated Towson for the program's first-ever national postseason victory.
The Stags have had a player named to an All-Met Team in each of the last three seasons now, with Sabra Wrice (2008) and Baendu Lowenthal (2009) earning Second Team accolades. Geehan becomes the 13th player since 1982 to be recognized by the Met Writers.
