Women's Basketball Falls 89-73 At Hofstra

The Fairfield University women's basketball team dropped its second cosnecutive contest, falling 89-73 to Hofstra University at the Mack Sports Complez on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Stags to 4-3 on the season, while the Pride improve to 4-1.
The Stags took a 6-4 lead on a basket from Joelle Nawrocki (Unionville, Conn.) 3:25 into the game, after trailing 4-2. The Pride answered that basket with with 14 unanswerd points over a 3:40 stretch to build an 18-6 advantage. Katelyn Linney (Freehold, N.J.) snapped the Stags scoring drought with a three-pointer at the 11:57 mark of the first-half, making the score 18-9. The Pride would lead by as many as 21 points twice in the first-half, and took a 44-25 lead into the intermission after Linney scored a driving lay-up with six seconds to play in the period.
Nawrocki led four Stags in double-figures on the day, with 13 points, including 3-3 from behind the arc. The senior hit 5-6 from the field and handed out three assists. Taryn Johnson (Brockton, Mass.) and Desiree Pina (Plainville, Conn.) each scored 11 points, while Linney added 10 points.
Hofstra stretched its halftime advatange to as many as 36 points, 71-35, with 10:57 to play in the game. The Stags battled throughout the period, shooting 60 percent from the field in the second-half. Fairfield out scored the Pride 48-45 in the period. 
The Stags shot 52.8 percent from the field in the game, and were good on four three-pointers – hitting 3-6 from behind the arc in the final period. All 11 players that saw action in the game scored points for Fairfield, including a career-high five points from Brittany Obi-Tabot (Watertown, Mass.). The rookie went 2-2 from the field with a rebound in her four minutes of action. 
Hofstra received five double-digit scoring efforts in the game, with three players; Candace Bond, Nicole Capurso and Kate Loper, each scoring 13 points. Candice Bellocchio scored 11 points and handed out a game-high 11 assists, while Annie Payton added 11 points as well.
The Stags finished with a season-high 25 turnovers on the afternoon, which Hofstra turned into 31 points. The Pride out-rebounded Fairfield 33-28, with an 8-6 edge in offensive rebounds. The Stags out-scored the Pride 44-40 in the paint on the day.
Fairfield concludes its season-long four-game road trip on Thursday, December 9 with a visit to Ivy League member, Columbia University.
