POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Fairfield University volleyball team fell to Marist College 3-1 (20-25, 16-25, 25-15, 14-25) this afternoon. Freshman
Rachel Romansky (Denver, Colo.) had a double-double while two other Stags notched double-digit kills.
Romansky tallied 33 assists and 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Senior
Lauren Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) posted a team-high 12 kills while sophomore
Brianna Dixion (Long Beach, Calif.) notched 10 kills.
Defensively, sophomore
Kara Reis (Ramona, Calif.) had 17 digs while junior
Bethany Steiger (Cary, Ill.) had three total blocks.
With the scored tied 16-16 in the first set, Marist went on a 6-1 run to pull ahead 23-18. The Stags came back and pulled within 23-20 on an ace by Reis but the Red Foxes held on for the win. Marist used another big run in the second set to open up a 23-13 lead. Fairfield could not recover, falling 25-16.
Fairfield bounced back in the third set, storming out to the 12-4 advantage. The Stags went on to lead by as much as 11 during the set. Marist regained the momentum in the fourth set, coming away with a 25-14 win.
Fairfield (11-18; 10-7 MAAC) finishes the regular season tomorrow, November 14, at Saint Peter's.
