Stags Lock Up Metro Regular Season Share with 3-0 Sweep at Quinnipiac

Fairfield recorded its 20th win of the campaign

HAMDEN, Conn. – For the eighth consecutive season and the 25th time in program history, Fairfield University Volleyball is the conference Regular Season Champion. The Stags swept Quinnipiac, 3-0, on Halloween in Hamden to secure at least a share of the Metro Conference crown – Fairfield needs just one win in its final four outings to claim the title outright.

With today's victory by set scores of 27-25, 25-20, and 28-26, the Stags improve to 20-5 overall and 14-0 in the Metro. Fairfield reached the 20-win mark for the seventh consecutive season (excluding a 9-1 final record in the spring of 2021). Fairfield has won at least 20 matches in 21 of the last 31 seasons. The Stags earned a bye to the semifinals and will be the top seed in the Metro Conference Championship scheduled for the weekend of Nov. 20-23. The "final four" will be hosted by the second-seeded team.

Quinnipiac falls to 10-15 on the season with a 9-5 Metro tally.

Emma Bortolotti led all players in today's match with 17 kills on .464 hitting from the right side. At the other pin, Aislin Oldach hammered 13 kills to fuel the attack.

Julie Dufourt added eight finishers, Sophia Nagy put down six, and Harlan Wyche had four.

Zofia Sykut ran the attack to a .296 clip with 36 assists along with a kill of her own.

Sykut was also one in a trio of Stags to serve up two aces. Bortolotti and Katelyn Cook landed two winners apiece with Dufourt and Wyche each dealing one ace.

Defensively, Cook led the back row from the libero spot with 13 digs. Dufourt added seven while Bortolotti and Sykut notched six apiece. At the net, Sykut had a hand in three of the Stags' six blocks.

The Bobcats were led by 13 kills from Giulia Ragusa and 11 from Sophia Minlend.

Up next, the Stags head to Rider and Saint Peter's on Nov. 6-7. The home slate and regular season conclude the following weekend with visits from Canisius and Niagara on Nov. 13-14.
