Fairfield enters the week in first place in the Metro Conference

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball hits a pivotal stretch in the Metro Conference season this week, wrapping up the month of October with a trio of conference contests. The run starts on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Leo D. Mahoney Arena with a visit from crosstown foe Sacred Heart. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.

Admission is free for all fans to all home matches this season.

Metro Lines
  • At 11-0, Fairfield holds a three-match lead in the standings over Siena and Quinnipiac (both 8-3).
  • Sacred Heart and Marist are right behind them at 7-4, with Iona also above .500 at 6-5.
  • The top six teams at the close of the 18-match league slate will qualify for the Metro Championship.
  • Fairfield is two wins away from clinching a conference postseason berth for the 31st consecutive season and four wins short of earning at least a share of its eighth consecutive regular season title.

Fairfield University Stags (17-5, 11-0 Metro)
  • The Stags hosted and defeated Manhattan (3-0) and Iona (3-1) this past week to move to 11-0 in the Metro Conference.
  • Mamie Krubally hit .457 for the weekend, including an errorless .714 (10-0-14) in the Friday sweep of Manhattan. With that performance, she moved to 29th in the nation with an even .400 hitting percentage this season. She enters the week as the only player in the nation hitting .400 or better with more than 500 swings.
  • Krubally leads Fairfield with 3.15 kills per set. Emma Bortolotti adds 2.54 also from the right side, and Aislin Oldach has put down 2.35 per frame at the left pin.
  • Defensively, Natalie Carlin sets the pace with 3.18 digs per set. Carlin had 19 in the sweep of Manhattan on Friday.
  • At the net, Harlan Wyche has racked up 115 blocks and sits 16 shy of 300 in her career. She would be the 10th Stag to reach that milestone.
  • As a team, the Stags lead the Metro and rank 20th nationally with a .272 hitting percentage. Fairfield is third in the conference defensively with teams hitting .185 against them.

Sacred Heart University Pioneers (14-9, 7-4 Metro)
  • Sacred Heart also defeated Iona and Manhattan last weekend – sweeping both ends of the conference set – to stay in the hunt at 7-4 as a part of a 14-9 overall tally.
  • The Pioneers have been the Metro's toughest defense with opponents hitting .170 against them. SHU's offense ranks fourth in the conference in efficiency with a .186 team hitting percentage.
  • Individually, the Pios are led by Lauren Hubert and Abbie Hagedorn with 3.67 and 3.44 kills per set, respectively.
  • Hagedorn is also second in the nation in service aces with 52.
  • Miliani Villarreal heads the back row with 4.51 digs per set – good for second in the Metro. Hubert adds 2.82 digs per stanza.
