Athletic Events On The Docket For Homecoming & Fam

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A full-day of athletic events will take place during Fairfield University's annual Homecoming & Family Weekend on October 23-24. Open practices, clinics, alumni games, and varsity competition are on the docket for the two-day event which takes place on campus.

The men's basketball team tips off Saturday, October 23 with an open practice beginning at 8:30 am in Alumni Hall. The women's basketball squad will also show their talents on the hardwood when it opens its 9 am practice to the public.

Beginning at 11:30 am, the Taste of Fairfield will take the place at the Barone Campus Center Green. The event will offer the menus of some of Fairfield's excellent restaurants. Also, some of the varsity coaches and student-athletes will be on hand for clinics through the three-hour period.

The men's lacrosse team will hold a clinic from11:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by performances by the cheer and dance teams. At 1 pm, the men's basketball team will conduct its clinic at 1 pm, with the women's basketball team starting its clinic at 2 pm.

There are two special events planned during the day as well, beginning with the dedication of Father O'Neil way at noon. Father O'Neil served the University community in many capacities over the years, but student-athletes came to know him best as the Athletics Chaplain. The University will name the road leading to the new Jesuit Community after Father O'Neil. At 1:30 pm, there will a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly-refurbished lacrosse locker room.

Also at noon, the women's soccer alumnae game will be played at Lessing Field. The women's lacrosse program will also host an alumnae game at 12:00 pm at Alumni Field. The men's lacrosse team will host its alumni game right after the ribbon cutting ceremony, with the approximate start time being 2 pm at Alumni Field.

The women's volleyball team takes the court for an important Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match with Iona College at Alumni Hall. The game time is slated for 2 pm.

The athletics portion of the day comes to an end with a Meet and Greet reception at the Barone Campus Center Mezzanine. The reception begins at 3 pm. This is a good chance for you to meet up with current and former student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff and recap what will be a full day of athletic excitement. Please RSVP for this reception by contacting Pat Murphy (pmurphy@fairfield.edu).

On Sunday, October 24, there will be three varsity games on campus which includes the women's soccer team hosting Niagara at 1 pm, the field hockey team hosting Yale at 1 pm, and the volleyball team welcoming  Rider at 2 pm.
