Fairfield battles Sacred Heart on Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women’s swimming and diving team will travel across town to take on the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm on Sunday and will be held at the McCann Natatorium in Milford.

The Stags are coming off a busy weekend in which they topped St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday 177.5-57.5, but fell to Siena on Monday 156-84.  They now own a 3-4 record on the season and have two meets left before MAAC Championships begin on February 10.

Against St. Francis, six different Stags posted an individual victory. Donna Lam placed first in the 200y Freestyle (2:00.41) and 100y Butterfly (1:00.28). Kelly Mulligan claimed the top spot in the 50y Freestyle (26.02). Grace Goddard finished the 200y IM in 2:17.71. Michelle Pleban placed first in the 100y Freestyle (57.17). Danielle Latino posted a victory in the 500y Freestyle (5:44.65) and Emily Vlass earned the top spot in the 100y Breaststroke (1:12.79).

Leah Pawelczyk posted a personal best in the 3-meter dive with a score of 209.25 and Christine McCabe posted personal bests in both diving events. In the 1-meter she scored 168.05 and in the 3-meter scored 177.70.

At Siena on Monday, Kelly Cordes was the lone Fairfield swimmer to post an individual victory. In the 200y Freestyle she finished first with a time of 1:59.80, and in the 500y Freestyle she claimed the top spot with a time of 5:24.10.

Sacred Heart is coming off a 116-89 victory over Manhattan on Saturday. The Pioneers were led by Jillian Crosby, Olivia Decas, and Caleigh Dion who all earned three individual victories against the Jaspers. Sacred Heart moved to 2-5 on the season with their other victory coming against St. Francis Brooklyn back in October.

After this weekend, Fairfield will close out their season against Iona College on January 30.
