Women's Tennis Defeats Siena, 5-2, on Senior Day

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team swept Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Siena, 5-2, on Saturday, April 18, for their sixth conference win of the 2015 campaign on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The Stags ranked third in the conference to clinch a spot in the MAAC Tournament.

Fairfield captured the doubles point before posting singles victories in the No. 3 – No. 6 spots.

The Fairfield duo of Allison Radde and Helen Abbot edged the Siena’s Erika Reagan and Mitsuki Fukamachi, 8-7(5), in the No. 1 spot while the Stags’ Sarah Stuhlmann and Emma Samson fell, 8-7(4) to the Saints’ Rina Sakai and Julia Dunbar in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 doubles, Karen McKeough and Meghan Zimmer edged Siena’s Cassandra Braz and Jessica Macaluso, 8-2.

At No. 1 singles, Radde was edged 6-3, 2-6, 10-2, by Sakai. Stuhlmann battled but ultimately fell 7-6(5), 2-6, 10-2 to Fukamachi in the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 singles was Nicole Aragones who edged Macaluso, 6-1, 6-3, while Abbot beat Dunbar, 6-4, 6-0, in the No. 4 spot. Rounding out play for Fairfield was Kaila Nelson who topped Reagan, 6-2, 6-4, while McKeough clipped Braz, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 slot.

Fairfield women’s tennis (7-7; 6-2 MAAC) has now concluded their 2015 regular-season campaign. The Stags will now compete in the 2015 MAAC Tournament on April 25-26 at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
