Women's Tennis Defeats Lafayette, 5-2

EASTON, Pa. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team defeatd Lafayette, 5-2, on Saturday, February 7, for their first win of the 2015 campaign at the Winning Touch Tennis Lehigh Valley Courts.

The Fairfield duo of Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann defeated Lafayette’s Jordyn Spellberg and Gabby Montes, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot while the Stags’ Erika Nannery and Kaila Nelson notched a 6-4 win over the Leopards’ Rocine Moschella and Tori Almeida in the No. 3 slot. At No. 1 singles, Allison Radde and Karen McKeough were trailing Lafayette’s Caroline Nixon and Catherine Senopoulos, 5-4, but the match remained unfinished.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Stuhlmann battled but was ultimately edged, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9, by the Leopards’ Nixon. In the No. 2 slot was rookie Aragones who posted a, 6-2, 6-2, win over Spellberg while Nelson edged Moschella by a count of 4-6, 6-3, 10-5, at No. 3 singles. Lafayette battled back, recording a victory in the No. 4 spot, as rookie Nannery fell to Senopoulos, 7-5, 7-6(5). At No. 5 singles was sophomore McKeough, who posted a 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-5, win over Almeida. Rounding out play was Meghan Zimmer who edged Lafayette’s Montes, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4, at No. 6 singles.

Fairfield (1-1) is scheduled to bring competition back to the Solaris Club in Stamford, Conn. The Stags will take on Providence on Saturday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m.
