COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sophomore Alex Taylor finished competition at the 2014 NCAA Golf Regionals this afternoon at the Club at Old Hawthorne. Taylor carded an 81 (+9), registering par on 12 holes. After 54 holes of NCAA Regional play, Taylor finished with a three-day score of 236 (75-80-81) to place 74th overall.
Taylor was one of five student-athletes playing as individuals at the event. Pep Angles of Central Arkansas was the leader of the group, finishing with a 215 (75-69-71) and tying for 23rd overall. Matt Mabry (Tulsa) carded a 217 (76-72-69), Daniel Wood (Kansas State) had a score of 219 (77-73-69), while Logan McCracken (Tulsa) turned in a 221 (76-77-68).
Oklahoma State won the NCAA Regional with a team score of 831 (-31). Mizzou’s Emilio Cuartero was the individual champion, shooting a 65 in the final round to finish with a three-day score of 205 (-11), one stroke ahead of three other golfers.
Taylor was the second consecutive Stag to participate in the NCAA Regionals. He won the McLeod Trophy at the 2014 MAAC Championship which is presented to the top individual golfer and earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. Steve Burak completed the same feat in 2013.
