LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Fairfield University women’s golf team is tied for fourth place after the first round of play at the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. The Stags shot a combined 342 on the par-72, 6,006-yard Disney’s Palm Golf Course.
Sophomore Michelle Applegate was Fairfield’s top-finisher. Applegate finished second overall with a score of 78 (+6) and was only three strokes behind individual leader Kylie Strijek from Siena.
Junior Emma Ritzmann carded an 82 (+10), finishing tied for fourth overall with five other competitors. Jackie Schofield posted a first round score of 89 (+17) to finish tied for 25th overall in her MAAC Championships debut.
Junior Katie Rockwell finished off the day with a 93, to place 34th, while rookie Danielle Dalsessandro posted a 95 to finish 35th overall.
Siena shot a 319 (+31) to lead the conference after the first round of competition. Quinnipiac is the current runner-up with a score of 340 while Niagara is a close third with a 341. Monmouth is tied with the Stags for fourth, posting a 342. Rounding out the tournament is Albany who placed sixth (343) and Hartford who followed in seventh (350).
The Stags will continue action at the 2014 MAAC Championships with round two beginning at 8am tomorrow.
