After spending Spring Break in Myrtle Beach for a week of training, the Fairfield University men’s golf team will open the second half of its season at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational, March 30-April 1, Prospect Bay Country Club. Fans can follow along with the live scoring by clicking here.
Fairfield placed sixth overall at the 2013 Towson Invitational, finishing with a three-day score of 933 in the 24-team event. Ricky Dowling shot a final round 78 to be the Stags top finisher in a tie for 19th place.
After a solid fall season, including a second place finish at the ECAC Championship, Head Coach Len Roberto and the Stags are looking forward to the spring season. Roberto, the 2013 MAAC Coach of the Year, is expecting Fairfield to build on its success from one season ago.
The Stags capped off the 2013 campaign by finishing third at the 2013 MAAC Championship, with a program-best 884 three-day score, three strokes shy of team champion Loyola University Maryland. Steve Burak shot a MAAC Championship, 54-hole record 208 to become the first Stag to win the McLeod Trophy for top individual score in 16 years.
In addition to the Towson Invitational, the Stags will participate in four events leading up to the 2014 MAAC Championships. Fairfield heads to the Wagner Spring Invitational, April 7-8, at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Gettysburg, Pa. After a quad match on April 17 and a stop at the Peacock Invitational on April 21 at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course. The 2014 MAAC Championships will be held April 25-27 at Disney’s Palm Golf Course.
