FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With five non-conference games tucked away, the Fairfield University men's soccer team will now turn its attention to Metro Conference play this weekend when the Stags host Siena University on Saturday night at Lessing Field. The game is slated for a 6 pm start.
Head Coach Kristen Witkowski has witnessed his team put together a solid start to the 2026 campaign, holding a 2-1-2 record and a current four-game unbeaten streak. Since dropping their season opener to nationally-ranked Marshall University, Fairfield has put together a pair of wins (UConn and New Haven) and a couple draws (Lehigh and Columbia).
The results have come from quality play on both sides of the pitch with Fairfield placing fourth in goals scored per game (1.8) among conference members and accounting for one of the four teams in the Metro Conference to score more goals than it allowed.
Freshman forward Cristian Carlos and sophomore goalkeeper
Evan Chomow are at the heart of the team's statistical success. Carlos is tied for second for goals scored with four, one behind Siena's Lucas Almedia leading total of five. Carlos also has the second highest points per game average at 1.80, registering nine points in five games (four goals, one assist).
Chomow brings a .733 save percentage off 22 saves and a 1.80 goals against average into this weekend's action, coming off a season-best seven saves in the win over New Haven. Chomow picked up the Metro Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his effort against the Chargers, joining Carlos who gained the Metro Conference Rookie of the Week honor for the third time.
Siena, the 2025 conference champion, owns a 2-3-1 overall record as it also begins Metro Conference competition on Saturday night. The Saints are coming off a 3-0 win against LIU, a game in which Almedia, Campbell Stalker, and Sean Kelly posted a goal. Siena owns a 2-0-1 record when scoring three goals in a game this season and a 0-3 mark when scoring less than three goals.
Almedia, the Metro Conference Preseason Player of the Year, has tallied a goal in four of his six appearances and added an assist in two of those four goal-scoring games. His goal against LIU was the game winner, coming in the third minute. Alejandro Perez Jorda and Stalker are the team's other two multi-goal scorers so far with two each.
Goalkeeper Bennet Glinder played all 540 minutes for Siena, owning a .675 save percentage off 27 saves along with a 2.17 goals against average.
Fairfield will remain in Metro Conference play next week, traveling to Quinnipiac University on Saturday, September 26 for a 2 pm match.
