FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Junior
Peyton Shields and freshman
Sarah Bielski were honored for their performances by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) last week, helping the Fairfield University softball team post four wins in six games. Shields collected the Jersey Mike's MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Week honor while Bielski received the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Week.
Shields put forth an incredible effort in the Stags' sweep of Siena University last Saturday, pitching all 18 innings in a pair of complete game wins. The right hander opened with a one-hit shutout, retiring the first 15 batters she faced in the game. She came back to toss an 11-inning complete game in the second game, scattering six hits and allowing one run.
For the week, Shields posted a 0.98 ERA which also included brief stints against Hofstra University and Central Connecticut State University earlier in the week. She pitched 21.1 innings over the four appearances, striking out seven against just four base on balls in improving her 2026 record to 8-7 overall and her ERA to 3.39.
Bielski was instrumental in that Siena sweep as well, driving home three of the team's four runs during the doubleheader. She started with an RBI single that added the second run in the 2-0 opening game win. The infielder/designated player picked up both RBI in the nightcap, tying the game in the bottom of the second and adding the game-winning base hit in the bottom of the 11
th inning.
For the week, Bielski batted .400 with four RBI and a .663 on-base percentage, reaching base 12 times in 19 plate appearances. On the season, Bielski leads the team with a .319 batting average and has 17 RBI with three doubles, a triple, and a home run to her credit.
