Stags Make Crosstown Trip for Wednesday Matinee at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse makes the short trip across town on Wednesday, March 25 to meet Sacred Heart. Opening draw in the MAAC clash on Park Ave. is set for 3 p.m.
 
Fairfield University Stags (6-3, 1-0 MAAC)
  • The Stags pulled away from perennial MAAC contender Siena for an 11-7 win on Saturday at Rafferty Stadium, moving to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC.
  • After Saturday's performance, Fairfield ranks 20th nationally with 8.56 goals allowed per game.
  • Haley Burns slots second in the MAAC and 21st in the nation with 2.22 caused turnovers per contest. Sophia Colasacco ranks third in caused turnovers at 2.00 per game.
  • In the cage, Whitney Robinson is second in the MAAC with a .460 save percentage and an 8.71 goals-against average.
  • Offensively, Kelly Haggerty and Tessa Caputo lead the Stags with 31 and 30 points, respectively.
 
Sacred Heart University Pioneers (2-6, 1-0 MAAC)
  • Sacred Heart was on the winning end of a 5-4 defensive battle with Iona on Saturday to move to 1-0 in the MAAC as a part of a 2-6 overall mark.
  • The Pioneers are yet to score in double figures, averaging just 6.00 goals per game. Jamie Tanner leads the scoring effort with 17 goals and 19 total points.
  • Defensively, Brooke Gyllenhaal leads the way with 13 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls.
 
Series History
  • Fairfield is 18-0 all-time against its crosstown foes, most recently winning 13-7 last April at Rafferty Stadium.
  • Excluding the Covid-affected seasons of 2020 and 2021, the two teams have met annually since 2008, highlighted by an NCAA Play-In game in 2009.
