JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fairfield University Baseball slugger
Matthew Bucciero tied the program's career home run record with his 40th long ball leading the Stags to an 11-1 victory over Saint Peter's for their sixth-straight conference win. Bucciero and
Luke Nomura led the offense with three hits and three runs scored. On the mound,
Harrison Engle struck out seven in 3.2 innings for his second win of the season.
Fairfield scored all 11 of their runs unanswered starting with a
JP Kuczik run scoring single in the third, tying the game at 1-1. Bucciero would club his fifth homer of the season as he clubbed a 3-1 pitch over the wall to give the Stags a 2-1 lead.
The Stags blew the game open with a seven-spot in the sixth. Nomura and Kuczik would hit back-to-back two RBI singles while
Connor Scanlan cleared the bases with a three-run shot.
Jake Haarde closed the scoring with a single that drove in another pair of runs in the seventh.
Engle came in relief and was solid tossing 3.2 scoreless frames, striking out seven and allowing just two hits. In his freshman season, Engle leads the team with two victories and 10 appearances.
Bucciero raised his team's leading average to .314 while Nomura also eclipsed the .300 mark with his trio of hits.
Fairfield's six-game conference winning streak puts their MAAC mark to 6-2.
The Stags will look for the sweep over the Peacocks tomorrow at 1pm.
