FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Luke Nomura hit a two-run homer while eight different players recorded a hit as the Fairfield University Baseball team started off their series against Saint Peter's with a 6-3 victory. The victory was Fairfield's fifth-straight MAAC win that puts their conference record to 5-2.
The Stags never trailed in the game, plating the first three runs by scoring in the first, third, and fourth innings. Nomura got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly bringing home
TJ Schmalzle.
JP Kuczik would double up the score with a RBI single to center in the third and Schmalzle put the margin to 3-0 with a RBI infield single in the next frame.
Saint Peter's would bring the game closer making the score 3-2, but Fairfield answered with three unanswered runs in the eighth. Nomura highlighted the frame with a two-run shot that capped their sxi-run offensive output.
Jimmy Mulvaney came in a tense moment in the ninth with the bases loaded and one out in a 6-3 game, but got both of his hitters to strike out to preserve the 6-3 victory.
Ben Alekson picked up the win allowing two runs in his six innings pitched while striking out four.
Nomura led the Stags with three RBI while Schmalzle scored three times out of the leadoff spot.
The two teams will continue the series at Saint Peter's on Saturday at 3pm.
