FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team snapped their five-game winning streak by falling 5-3 against Hofstra on a cold Wednesday afternoon.
Jake Haarde highlighted the offense by crushing his first home run in a Stag uniform.
The Stags plated a pair of runs in their first at-bats with
JP Kuczik singling in a run and
Connor Scanlan drawing a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first. The Stags brought eight men to the plate in the opening inning with two hits and three walks.
The score would stay as a 2-0 Fairfield lead until the middle innings as Hofstra scored runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. A Michael Craig two-run single in the sixth broke a tied score to give the Pride their first lead of the afternoon.
Haarde brought the Stags closer in the eighth with a solo shot, his first homer as a Stag that put the score at 5-3.
The Stags got the tying run to the plate in the ninth after another Kuczik single but Haarde's line drive found the outfielders glove to complete the 5-3 ballgame.
Luke Nomura and Kuczik paced the offense with two hits apiece.
Fairfield is back in conference action when they hit the road for a three-game series at Saint Peter's starting with a Friday afternoon game at 3pm.
