MANCHESTER, Conn. — Fairfield University Men's Tennis was on the short side of a 4-3 decision to visiting LIU on Tuesday at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester.
Kostas Kollias and
Calum Jessett earned singles wins for the Stags.
Fairfield took an early lead in doubles with victories in the top two flights. Kollias and
Kacper Krolikowski rolled at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 victory, while Jessett and
Alex Aguiar grabbed 6-2 win at No. 2.
With the point clinched, the match at No. 3 doubles went unfinished with
Luca Benaibbouche and
Alexander Di Staulo locked in a 4-3 duel.
In singles play, Kollias achieved a straight-sets victory at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-4, 6-3 scoreline. Jessett also delivered a strong performance at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1.
However, LIU earned the four victories it needed to earn the team triumph. Krolikowski fought to a third set at the top flight before retiring faced with a 6-4, 6-7(6), 1-3 tally.
Pol Otin also pushed his match to a third frame but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-7(7), 2-6.
Fairfield Men's Tennis returns to action this Friday with a trip to New York City to challenge Fordham.
