EDISON, N.J. – Whitney Robinson has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week following a standout performance in the cage for Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse. The graduate student made 12 saves and allowed only two goals in the Stags' 10-2 victory to close out the non-conference schedule last Wednesday at Vermont.
Robinson turned away 12 of the Catamounts' 14 shots on target, including a scoreless second half as Fairfield netted the last seven goals of the 10-2 road triumph. The two goals allowed was the fewest by a Fairfield team in the possession clock era (since 2017) and the fewest overall since an 11-2 win over Sacred Heart on Feb. 14, 2015 – the first-ever women's lacrosse game at Rafferty Stadium.
In addition to her dozen stops, Robinson recorded four ground balls and a caused turnover. She did not concede an even-strength goal, with Vermont only scoring twice in player-up situations – one of which came from a free-position try.
The Stags (5-3) begin MAAC play on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium next Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. against Siena (5-3). The Saints are 5-2 on the season entering their non-conference finale later today at URI.
Admission is free for all fans to all Fairfield Women's Lacrosse regular season home games this season.
